Utter Degradation of NHS wards

Physical and sexual assaults are common on mixed sex NHS wards.

Labour promised to phase them out as far back as 1997 during their election manifesto .
In 1999 Health Secretary Frank Dobson said he had pledged to eliminating mixed sex wards and that was what he was working towards.

In 2001 Labour promised voters, "mixed sex wards will be abolished" and set a target of 2004.

In 2004 John Reid admitted the target had been missed and now aims for 2008.

At Addenbrook's Hospital, a female patient was repeatedly punched in the groin where she had had surgery, by a male patient with dementia.

At St George's, Tooting a 73 year old woman was sexually assaulted by a 50 year old convicted rapist on the same ward.

A 39 year old claimed she was sexually abused during her stay in a mixed ward.

A 71 year old woman, dying of cancer was raped in a lavatory just yards from her bed at King's College Hospital, London.

At Victoria Hospital in Fife, an 83 year old patient died six days after being sexually assaulted in a mixed ward in 2001.

Good old New Labour, plenty of money for the Sudan or Gaza but when it comes to our elderly and sick; just empty promises at election time.
